Around The World!!!

Our Summer showcase was titled Around the World, featuring music from around the world with a cultural twist. We had great participation both from the performers and with the general dancing through the evening.

Mercedes had the first entry for Cuba with an authentic Mambo (NY-Style on 2!) harkening back to the days of the Palladium where Cuban roots blossomed through the music of Tito Puente and others.

Gary gave us his best rendition of Outlander’s Jamie. Although Vanda couldn’t quite convince him to take his shirt off for the performance he danced a fluid and musical Viennese Waltz showing off his new understanding of framing the partner in open positions.

Marie Antoinette, I mean Elizabeth, taunted a poor French peasant with a baguette in a very playful Cha Cha. Her routine was a delightful combination of slick Cha Cha timings and acting elements - basically what every show dance strives to embody.

Victoria danced her first showcase and first performance at Big Apple to a high energy Cha Cha by Michael Buble. She hit all her marks and didn’t miss a beat.

Octoberfest came early for Gretchen’s Samba to Die Stiefel Sind Zum Wandern (aka These Boots Are Made For Walking). It was a big departure from typical form as a Smooth dancer, but she was rhythmic and playful, and kept her beer chugging partner in his place.

Jerry and Vanda recreated their Conga routine from the year they won the Best of the Best in Ohio. They haven’t lost a step and I would say the new version was even higher energy and more rhythmical than the original.

You can catch all of our team’s performances on our YouTube channel. Join us for our next party September 12th at 7:30pm. We’ll be starting the evening with a Bachata group class followed by some general dancing from 8-9:30pm.
